‘A’ Body Shape or the Pear or Triangle Body Shape or Carrot Body Shape – What to wear for your body type?

fashion collections

By Definition – This Body Type is usually bottom wider and top thinner or petite. They have leaner shoulders, bust and waist whereas heavier bottoms. In simpler terms, they have leaner upper body and a heavier lower body. Your Bust and waist measurements are 15% or more smaller than the hip measurements.

The Idea Is – The idea is to make your upper body look heavier than the lower body, at the same time hiding certain areas of the lower body from being highlighted. The idea is to take away the concentration of the viewer from the hips and highlight the more aesthetic areas of your body.

If you’re tall or average(above or 5 feet 6 inches Asian or above 5 feet 8 inches Caucasian or Black) – Go ahead and flaunt your legs below the hips and avoid any figure hugging kind of designs around the hips (especially hot pants or micro/mini skirts) or any silhouette which has prominent surface embellishments highlighting the hip or waist. You could also look at lower necklines, Bust padded garments or even prominence given to the shoulders through padding or surface embellishment. You could wear dresses/gowns which have some prominence at the shoulders to bust area. You will look great with Jackets (blazers or the suit look) and for the bottoms, go for cigarette/pencil skirts/trousers or even parallel trousers (avoid Bell Bottoms with a fitted top or palazzo trousers). Leg flaunting slit gowns might do some wonders too. I would also suggest heavily accessorising above the waist like necks, ears, hands, etc.

If you’re Short (below 5 feet 6 inches Asian or 5 feet 8 inches Caucasian or Black) – For a shorter body, the idea is to make either your legs look longer (and taller) and/or make the upper torso get more prominence. Avoid skin hugging trousers, especially at the hips, if you have large hips. I would advise against Parallels or Palazzos and for God’s sakes! stay away from Bell Bottoms. Wear Slim fit trousers if you’re on the slightly slimmer side (lets say hips below 38-40 inches or 95-100 cms) or go for Pencil/cigarette fit trousers. You can go for Straight or A-Line skirts as well but avoid volume around/below the hip. Add Volume above the waist or midriff. Good Fitted midriffs like large waist belts can also be used to accessorise. If you have a petite upper torso, avoid corsets as well. Blazers with short skirts (at or below mid thigh) or knee length skirts might also do the trick in your favour. Or any tops/dresses padded at the shoulder and/or bust to highlight the upper torso, embellished or printed tops with busy prints will also compliment you. Lower necklines might also compliment your figure. I would also suggest heavily accessorising the necks, ears, hands, legs, etc.

Plus Sizes (above or on size size Large/size 10 UK/size 8 US and above) – Keep it comfortable at the Bottom, Avoid any skin or slim fits all over. Accessorise well, Hands and neck. Take the prominence to the neck and lower neckline till the bust. Give prominence to the shoulders as well. Targeted Volume can actually be the secret here, straight or flared dresses or gowns. Comfort fit trousers and blouses (shirts). Ruffled necklines and ruffled center fronts can also play a vital role in taking away the prominence from the body shape. Padded Bustiers or dresses might actually work in your favour. Don’t carry unnecessary luggage such as totes or satchels unless it is necessary, pretty little clutches and wallets will also do the trick by giving prominence to those little accessories in your hands. Avoid corsets or midriff belts unless they are body shaping tummy tuckers. Tummy tuckers might actually help, buy a comfortable one for those special outings. Simple straight knee length dresses can also work in your favour. Avoid gowns. A little prominence to your arms too can create wonders, go ahead and go sleeveless unless you’re not proud of your arms. The idea is to give prominence to the upper parts of your body, lower necklines with straight cuts might also work in your favour.

Bibliography : Although whatever I have written is original, as well as the Body Shape Images I have used are original, created by me; I have made some references to grab on to the idea, using a lot of my visualization and representation techniques of body types and women. I admit I have taken imagery for visual purposes of the reader to visually understand the looks better from here and there, as well as some study material to refresh me from the below blogs and sites.
